ABOUT DIGNIDAD LITERARIA AND THE NATIONAL WEEK OF ACTION

The #DignidadLiteraria campaign has garnered national attention, exposing the crisis in U.S. publishing with respect to Latinx people. We see this as part of a larger national problem of racism and Latinx marginalization. This effort was first sparked by the powerful book review by Myriam Gurba who connected with other writers and Presente.org early on.

The opportunity before us is to bring about a systemic transformation of the publishing industry, a major culture producer, and shift the national conversation to center Latinx culture-makers with the goal of dignity, liberation, and justice for all.

#DignidadLiteraria is a network of committed Latinx authors and activists formed to combat the invisibility of Latinx authors, editors and executives in the U.S. publishing industry and the dearth of Latinx literature on the shelves of America’s bookstores and libraries.

We believe in the power of our stories and owning our narratives. We support the wholeness of Latinx voices and believe that it is the duty of the publishing industry to use their full power and privilege to elevate these voices, with the full dignity and representation we deserve.

Moving the national conversation requires national action. We have national attention by holding town halls in at least 15 U.S. cities. The forums have gained national and local media attention.

You can help amplify our nationwide actions by posting/sharing across your platforms. We are at a watershed moment for Latinx people regarding how Latinxs voices and stories are represented in publishing. We thank you on behalf of #DignidadLiteraria in keeping the movement organized and powerful!
